30/365 The games we play

I am a rehab director in a nursing home and today I was passing the great room to see about 5 residents playing the Wii. I smiled to myself thinking that not 6 months ago none of them knew what to do, and here they were bowling better than me! Then I ran out to my car to get my little point and shoot so I could share this with all of you! Many of the residents get around with assistance like this lady here in her power wheelchair. I love that they have embraced this technology and that at any age we can love to play games!

  1. In cases like that it is indeed a boon ya gotta love technology even when ya hate it.

  2. Great, great picture - my grandma is in assisted living and they play that quite a bit. We even got her own WII for her room - the boys love playing with her (and she is getting pretty good)! :)

  3. I love the idea of this. I don't know if my Mom would ever play Wii - she doesn't feel comfortable with anything on the computer except typing. Maybe if they have a snowshoeing game???? That's her love. I like the picture with the tv showing over her shoulder. I think I would have cropped in a little so the wall isn't showing on top of the tv and taken a little off the left side. Humm don't know tho

  5. I love the juxtaposition of old age and newfangled! A great theme. I also love the fact that a computer game can help keep people active, both physically and mentally! My husband's rehab hospital has a Wii, and he gained strength and coordination by playing baseball and bowling on it while he was there.

  6. I've never even thought about the connection between Wiis and rehab. What a great combination. I love the way you took the photo, especially that the woman had on a red sweater to add such a great bit of color. I like the idea of a crop. I really like this photo - what it says. It's great.

  12. I sense that there will be a lot of tournaments against the various nursing homes in the area in the years to come! I love this idea and am pleased that the residents are embracing AND enjoying it! Great shot!

  13. This is a great picture, Candy. I have read that video games are very good for keeping the mind sharp in later years.

  14. Great photo! Love the concept, too. And where would we be without our little P&S cams to capture wonderful moments like this one?
